TRAINING & PLACEMENT
THE BUSINESS OF ACTING
- 01Absolutely. No previous acting experience is required for Acting Fundamentals.Acting Fundamentals is designed to welcome a wide range of students — from complete beginners and people exploring acting for the first time to actors with previous theatre or on-camera experience who are new to Babcock Studios. You do not need to be pursuing a professional acting career to take the intensive. If you are looking for a creative outlet, want to build confidence, explore acting, or simply challenge yourself and have fun, you are welcome. The intensive introduces you to script analysis, scene work, improvisation, audition preparation, self-tape work, on-camera performance, and professional industry practices in a supportive, interactive environment. All actors new to Babcock Studios complete a short interview before enrollment.
- 02We do not offer class auditing to prospective students.Acting requires vulnerability, risk-taking, and a willingness to explore. We believe it is extremely important to create a safe, supportive environment where actors can work freely without feeling that they are being watched, evaluated, or judged by people outside the studio. Protecting that environment is an important part of how we approach training at Babcock Studios.Instead, all actors new to Babcock Studios complete an interview before enrolling. The interview gives you an opportunity to learn about the studio, ask questions, discuss your experience and goals, and determine whether Babcock Studios feels like the right fit for you.Once you become a Babcock Studios member, you are welcome to audit our other ongoing classes by reservation. We encourage our actors to observe other classes, learn from the work happening throughout the studio, and become part of the larger studio community.
- 03We believe that in order for an actor to reach their true potential, they need to stay connected to the instinct that first made them want to perform. That original passion can become clouded by industry concerns, outside criticism, comparisons with peers, and the constant noise of media and social media. We want to know who we are working with. The interview gives us an opportunity to learn about an actor's background, previous training and experience, what brought them to acting, what they hope to accomplish, and where they want to grow. It also gives the actor an opportunity to learn about Babcock Studios, ask questions, and determine whether our approach to training feels right for them. That initial conversation helps us understand where an actor is beginning so that their training can be specific and intentional from the start. As they continue at the studio, our instructors get to know their work, their strengths, where they need to be challenged, and what will help them continue to develop.Babcock Studios has been built and sustained for more than a decade by a community of people who genuinely care about the work, the actors they teach, and one another. That sense of connection is an important part of how we teach and how the studio has grown.
